We were about to launch our first tour in Spring 2020 – and then the pandemic hit! September 2020 also saw the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and Paul was in the Vineyard at Terlingham with Jackie and Caroline when a spitfire flew over – you couldn’t mistake the sound of that Merlin engine!
From that moment, the ‘Battle of Britain Tour’ was born: This transports HPB Bondholders up to the Memorial at Capel-Le-Ferne – which is a very special place, particularly for those with war memories and historical family links – where you can take in the wonderful views of the white cliffs and over the channel to France – and listen to the story painted by Major Jules and the ‘Scramble Experience’.
Then on to Terlingham for a delightful tasting and luncheon experience in their vineyard, with views over the English Channel and under the Battle of Britain skies. You never know, a spitfire or hurricane might fly over to say hello too!
The ‘Flagship Tour’ is designed for singles, couples or larger groups and is perfect for birthdays, anniversaries – and the Corporate Sector.
We will be able to pick up and set down at a single location of your choice – as long as we consider it to be within a reasonable distance of Sandgate!
This tour takes in both Terlingham and Simpsons’ – chosen because of the stark contrast between the two different methods of production, both of which produce award winning wines – with Terlingham being an organic and family run vineyard – and Simpsons’ a much larger affair, with huge potential for further growth.
The only way to follow such interesting and fun visits to the vineyards is to satiate your hunger pangs at the fabulous THE PIG – at Bridge Place. We can promise you a dining experience you will never forget – and which is still spoken about most fondly by all of those who attended my 60th birthday celebration lunch last year. Yes – that really was chocolate that you can see on those nearly empty plates!
