Paul and Sarah Woodward, owners of East Kent Vineyard Tours Ltd have put together a full day tour that includes visits to two of East Kent’s finest vineyards: Terlingham Vineyard and Simpsons’, followed by lunch at THE PIG – at Bridge Place, which is one of the eight fabled PIGs in the litter.
Stop 1 – Terlingham Vineyard Tour
Guests will be picked up in a luxury minibus and driven to Terlingham to be greeted by Jackie and Caroline, the proprietors of this outstanding family-run organic vineyard.
A short walk to the vineyard, takes you to a gorgeous south-facing slope on the Kent North Downs, with fabulous views over the Channel to France. Where you can stroll among the vines. You will be given a wonderfully insightful explanation of the viticulture process – in particular how they use natural farming methods to grow their grapes – without artificial chemical herbicides, pesticides or fertilisers and with everything done by hand.
You will taste three wines amongst the vines – a combination of still and sparkling – the sparkling made in the traditional method using the champagne grapes of pinot meunier, pinot noir and chardonnay. If it’s a rainy day, there is a tasting barn in the vineyard, which is where you will also receive some savoury snacks. This completes your one hour stay at wonderful Terlingham!

Stop 2 – Simpsons’ Wine Estate
A short drive will then take our guests to Simpson’s’ Wine Estate.
Simpsons’ Vineyard occupies glorious positions on the sunny, sheltered slopes of the North Downs of Kent, protected from inclement weather by ancient woodland and embedded in the iconic chalky soils, which are so highly revered in the world of both still and sparkling wine.
In September 2016, Oz Clarke opened the winery, which is just minutes from the vines – so you will only find Simpson’s grapes in Simpsons’ wines – none bought in, no method outsourced.
Their winemaking methods have been carefully chosen to promote the purest expression of the fruit and our Kentish terroir.
The quality of Simpsons’ wines are unrivalled in this part of Kent and your visit includes a tutored tasting of five of their finest – in the comfort of the elegant Glass House Tasting Room, which overlooks the winery itself.
Also, no visit to Simpsons’ is complete without a trip down the ‘Fruit Chute’ helter-skelter into the winery (optional!).
Stop 3 – THE PIG – at Bridge Place
Another short drive to the historic village of Bridge, just outside of Canterbury – and to THE PIG – at Bridge Place – your lunch destination which is an intriguing old building with a rock-n-roll vibe, which over the past four decades has become home to some renowned parties and gigs playing host in the ’70’s to Led Zeppelin and the like.
You will be seated in the restaurant on one of the Chef’s Tables where you’ll either be indulging in the pre-ordered sharing feast OR choosing from the 3/3/3 menu (is it meat and veggie OR maybe fish and meat?* ….. and of course, pudding!) – both made up from some wonderful home grown produce from the Kitchen Garden. With an obsessive commitment to home grown and local produce, the team celebrate the seasons and use only the best, freshest and most authentic foods and ingredients. The hotel’s surroundings influence the food in every way and what cannot be grown in the Kitchen Garden is sourced from within a 25 mile radius.
There is an extensive wine list featuring excellent wines from a collection of Kent producers (including Simpsons’!) under the umbrella ‘The Wine Garden of England’ – as well as classics from all over Europe and the rest of the world. All drinks are at an additional cost and will be billed separately.
*please advise of dietary allergies in advance
